Investment in Youth Services

Significant and sustained business and philanthropic investment in proven community-based youth service organizations, to help them grow their impact and drive generational change.

A $15M commitment (over three years) from the private and philanthropic sectors
for youth support services, in line with the New Orleans Youth Master Plan.

WHO:

  • Coordinated by United Way of Southeast Louisiana (UWSELA)
  • Eligible grantees will be community-based nonprofit organizations in good standing with a track-record of success in providing effective youth services

WHAT:

  • $15M total commitment:  $5M per year for three years
  • Funding from new or expanded private sector sources, including business, philanthropy and individuals (local and national)
  • Over $500,000 for Year 1 already distributed and/or secured
  • Funding will support youth services that are aligned with the New Orleans Youth Master Plan
  • Funding will be administered by UWSELA and awarded to eligible non-profit organizations through a competitive RFP process
  • Non-profit organizations that receive funding will report on individual grant deliverables to UWSELA annually, and UWSELA will share the collective impact of this funding in a transparent manner with stakeholders

WHEN:

  • Year 1 of full program will be July 2022 – June 2023
  • In partnership with Baptist Community Ministries, UWSELA distributed $500,000 to 37 community-based non-profit organizations in May 2022.  These grants expanded the capacity of organizations to serve more young people this summer.

WHERE:  New Orleans

WHY:      Investment in our young people is essential if they are going to actualize their potential, and we are going to break the cycle of violence in our communities.  A dual approach of concurrent investment in organizations with a track record of youth service success, and increasing support for law enforcement, will drive sustainable, positive change in New Orleans.
